This Colorado valley of oat-brown grasses and tall cottonwoods, created from ancient stone giants called the Huajatolla, is home to Valley Winds. |
||
| It's a small piece of land-- a house, barn, fences, and fiber room--camouflaged in the juniper and oaks of the mesa. Valley Winds takes us on a journey back in time to a way of living where less is more, where quality is measured in color and touch. The simplicity of raising animals, the creativity of spinning fine yarn, the open air and winds of nature all bring us here to Valley Winds. Where serenity is arrived at in the rightness of the moment, where a good laugh means more than a good meal, and where everyone has a say: a bark, a mew, a hum. | ||

| Alpacas and llamas have their genetic roots in
country like this. It was in the high plains of the Andes that native
peoples domesticated these members of the camel family -- seeking a warm
fiber for clothing. The alpaca is the distant cousin of the still
wild vicuna. The llama, a historically worthy beast of burden, was
domesticated from the sturdy guanaco and is presently being selectively
bred to produce lustrous, silky fiber. |
