Piccola Cosa, Italian for "little thing," provides Valley Winds with hand knit items for sale. Laura Wilmington, the founder of Piccola Cosa, LLC, had the good fortune to have two loving Italian grandmothers - Vincenza, who taught her to knit at age 5, and Maria, who taught her patience. The combination of these skills and lessons in life has yielded beautiful hand knits based on traditional designs - simple yet elegant, using luxurious natural fibers. Alpaca is a company specialty, though non-protein based fibers are occasionally added, reflecting the reality that modern life is made up of things natural and not so natural. So Piccola Cosa blends the two for a happy medium. Laura's goal is to create wearable artistic designs with an overall traditional style, having both professional and casual appearance.

The company specializes in vests, hats, scarves and mittens for adults and children. The line of Faeroe Island style scarves, made from Alpaca, is both warm and lightweight. Alpaca feels softer against the skin than wool, making it more comfortable. Alpaca's natural warmth allows for a less bulky scarf, yet providing needed warmth against winter winds. Currently in design by Piccola Cosa is a line of scarves from Alpaca yarns hand spun by Valley Winds. Laura's designs take their inspiration from both the natural and the man-made world.

As Nana Maria used to say, "When you feel down, go out and buy yourself a little something. It will make you feel better." Piccola Cosa, named for her wisdom, provides that little something.

Piccola Cosa designs can be custom hand-knit for you or purchased separately for your own knitting pleasure.
